Maison Assouline

I made a new discovery on Piccadilly the other day - Maison Assouline, the luxury book brand featuring Swan's Bar where we had afternoon tea.

It was like sitting in someone's own private library with books on fashion, travel, jewellery and other luxury items, alongside antiques and beautifully crafted objects. A peaceful oasis in the west end. Originally designed by Edward Lutyens in 1922, its high windows let in plenty of light; on the mezzanine a traditional Italian bookbinder, Paolo Taddeo, has a studio.
Sophisticated craft meets high end luxury.

Ai Wei Wei at the RA

Looking forward to going in to see this exhibition, but in the meantime I really enjoyed walking through the striking installation of sections of trees in the courtyard: collected from the mountains of southern China.

Tuscany

Still sunny here in London, but remembering much warmer days and stunning colours in Italy at the end of August, where we spent some time painting outdoors.

Continuing to look for inspiration from floating camellia. Enjoyed playing with colour contrasts and shadows

Camellia play

I had fun floating camellias on water on a sunny day in Belfast at Easter. Here are a just few of the dozens of pics I took.

Feast of Irish Colour

Monica Boyle Falacies of Hope VI
Yesterday I was delighted to discover the Barbara Stanley Gallery on Connaught Street which shows Irish contemporary art. What a find. I recognise some of the artists and loved seeing lots of Irish landscapes, as my own dissertation at university was on Irish landscape art. The soft atmospheric colours in some of the paintings are typically Irish with the good old Atlantic weather fronts blowing in - usually bringing rain!
I was struck by the rich glowing colours in Monica Boyle and Cormac O'Leary's paintings.

Looking forward to seeing more Irish art in future shows at this Gallery, especially having had a warm welcome from the owner.

New year, new series

I love January, hibernation month, spending time indoors - this year playing with ink and drawing.
I've really enjoyed sketching gorgeous flowering jasmine teas in glass. Studying majestic miniature underwater worlds.
Drawn and painted large-scale.

Great present from my sister-in-law.Thanks, Suzi!
